When it comes to metal fences, the aluminum fence should be your first consideration. Aluminum is a light weight alloy that do not rust or corrode, thus it needs minimum maintenance. Aluminum fence will last a life time under normal use.

It is a misconception that aluminum fence loses it’s shine if it is exposed to rain and shine over the time. Fact is these days, fences made from aluminum are coated with a layer of fine epoxy that with prevent the acidic rain from damaging the surface of the fence, thereby keeping your fence shiny all year round.

Another use of aluminum in recent years is the emergence of aluminum front gates and grills. This type of fence is fast catching on due to it’ s light weight and durability as compared to other metals.

Aluminum is also a very pliable metal and can be made into many decorative ornaments for decoration purposes. A front gate adorned with these ornaments looks grand and elegant. If the compound id further enshrouded with an aluminum fence that has the same design, the whole building stands out like a castle.

From the work-men’s point, aluminum fence is easier to install as compared to fences made from other heavy and bulky materials. Due to aluminum being very light, handling and transporting the aluminum fence is also made very much safer.

After you have decided that you must build a fence, whether it is by requirement or otherwise, it is time to sit down and ponder as to whether you want a professional contractor to come build the fence or if you intend to build the fence yourself.

You may need to consider hiring a professional fence builder if you are on a strict timeline or the project is just too large for you to do yourself in a reasonable amount of time. Nonetheless, getting yourself involved with a fence project only to find out a week into you are over your head is a real concern.

Now you are probably thinking, “What’s the big deal, if I start it and realize I’m in over my head then I’ll just hire out, they will pick up where I left off and all will be fine.” Well, only the end result of the project being fine is agreeable. Starting a project and deciding that you need to hire out half way in will often result in a greater financial, time, and labor loss.

For example, suppose you decide that you want to install about 2000 feet of aluminum fence over the course of a month with intentions of a having installing a pool by July. In addition, you realize that you are budgeted in order to afford the pool you plan to install in the upcoming months. You go to the local stores, shop around and find the best materials at the most reasonable costs. At the start of the fence project, day 1, you have all the necessary materials and appropriate project outline for the fence. Your drawings call for one fence post every 6 feet dug approximately 3 feet deep with crushed stone surrounding the base. You pull out your post hole digger and immediately jump into the project. At the end of day one you have finished installing 25 fence posts and have spent a little over 8 hours on the project (assuming each fence post you installed from digging to backfilling took only 20 minutes non-stop.)

At the start of day two your back is hurting, hands are blistered, and overall your body just feels spent. As a result, you take a day off and continue day two on what would have been day three. After a week passes you have successfully installed 150 posts (basically setting the ground work for 1500 feet of fence) continuing the format used on day one. Now your week long vacation is up and your regular job resumes Monday.

With only three weeks left until you anticipated on installing your fence you realize at this rate you will not be able to finish the project simply working on the weekends and you can’t afford to take any more time off from work. As a result you decide to hire professionals to get the job done for you.

After calling the professionals you are excited to find out that they can install 2000 feet of fence in less than two weeks. However, in order for the company to warrant there fence installation they refuse to use the materials you bought and will only install fence fabric on posts the company has installed. Now you are out a week’s vacation, hundreds of dollars in supplies, and countless hours spent attempting to do it yourself. In addition, you now have to pay the professionals for their labor and materials.

Essentially, this may never actually end up happening. However, the point is to be aware that many companies will not accept labor or materials purchased from other vendors including yourself. The professionals often carry warranties with their fence installations and will not assume the liability involved with continuing work that is not originally their own.

Before you decide to build a fence, whether it is affordable or not should not be your first criteria. The first question you should ask yourself before going on your fence building adventure is to ask yourself whether you have need to build a fence.

In some area and countries it is compulsory to have a fence and if you indeed have bought a land in such an area, there is not much choice. Many local governments require that certain types of commercial industries fence in their businesses. In addition, pool and pet owners are often required to fence in the area around their pool or animal. If this is the case then it’s a given, you are in definite need of a fence in order to meet these rules and regulations. Trying to evade the government and violate local laws will only lead to troubles and liabilities down the road. Taking proactive measures to prevent and secure your parcel from potential liabilities is a wise investment that will most likely save your trouble in the long run.

However, if it is not required by the local government your next question should be can I afford it? Although it may not be required by law to have a fence for the given parcel, your desire to enclose it may be a matter of aesthetics. When this is the case you simply need to recognize financial concerns. If you can afford it and have discussed the idea with your family then by all means you should go for it. However, if you find yourself in financial trouble and don’t really have any real need for the fence other than to beautify your parcel then you may want to reconsider your plans to build a fence.

Log fences can be crude and can be beautiful at the same time. having a log fence around our compound brings the feeling of country living to it hilt. These fence are easy to build and ca be done as long as the person is fit ans strong enough to lug those logs and place them in position. It is also feasible if there are ample supply of logs around, but with the on going protest of environmentalist fighting to keep our forest, log fences are on the decline.

As in all kinds of fences, log fences are build according to one’s needs. Some might like to keep it simple but some might want to built a log fortress like those we see in cowboy movies to keep out attacks from red indians. As such, there are no standard plans for building log fences in existence and each drawing or plans are drawn up to meet individual tastes and needs.

Here are some examples of log fences that are available from the Net. Use this drawings as a generl guide when you want to build a log fence of your own.

Even though there are no standard plans or methods to build a log fence, these drawings or pictures of log fences might trigger your imagination and set your creative juice flowing. In no time you will come out with your own drawings of log fence plans.

It’s common sense to have a pool fence if there are kids or pets in home that have a pool. No doubt having to fence up the beautiful pool do somewhat takes the aura away, but for safety sake, this will be a small compensation. Furthermore, if the fence is designed by a good designer, it could blend in with the pool and the pool fence might actually look beautiful.

Some pool owners who do not have small kids but want to keep their pets from wandering too near to the pool have install invisible fences around the pool. These invisible fences are actually sensors that passes small jolts of electricity to scare of the pets whenever they cross the path of the sensors.

To beautify the fences, plants and flower pots are usually used to camouflage the fence from being too obvious. From afar, it looks like a big garden surrounding a pool and it can look quite romantic and paradise like. If properly decorated, nobody will notice that there is a pool fence around the pool

Chain Link Fence as the name suggest are fences that are interlinked together like a chain. These kind of fence are widely used in army barracks or in large areas where an enclosure is needed. Farms too use these kind of chain link fence.

The reason that these fences are popular where the land area is large is because it is easy to build and install. Unlike conventional fences where the builder has to build the fences from scratch, chain link fences come pre-fabricated in rolls. The length of each roll is determined by manufacturers. Those that are factory standard comes with a specified length. However, if there are special orders for a pre-determined length, most manufacturers will accomodate their clients needs and make custom make the fences according to their required specifications.

Since it comes ready and neatly rolled into bundles, installing the fences is just a matter of erecting the fence posts, and wrapping the linked fence around the compound that is to be fenced up. The chain link fence is then locked to the fence post with cotter pins. Am experienced worker can easily completed hundreds of meters in a matter of days. The same job will take weeks or months if a wooden fence is erected.

The cost of erecting a chain link fence is greatly reduced due to the ease of erecting such a fence. labor charges are brought to the minimum. The cost of buying the fence is also cheaper than other material as chain link fence are pass produced with modern machineries.
If compared to the normal iron fence, there are advantages and disadvantages of using aluminum as fences. The main disadvantage id of course the hight cost of this material. Aluminum cost a lot more than iron, wood or plastic and if your compound is large, building a aluminum fence around it will be vey costly.

Another disadvantage of aluminum is, even though more lasting than iron because of it’s anti corrosion and rust resistancy, it is not as tough as iron or wood. If you knock a piece of aluminum tube against a piece of wood or iron, you will notice that the aluminum tube will be badly dented while the iron or wood will still look like new. So if there should be an accident like a tree or a branch falling on the fence, the damage will be substancially worse for the aluminum fence than a wooden fence.

Installation of aluminum fences will also involve more special tools. Whereas wood can be nailed with a simple hammer, aluminum has to be rivetted to hole them in place and to do a simple rivet, 2 tools have to be used, the drill and the rivet gun. So again that will be 2 times the work and the cost.

However, the factor that attracts many to have aluminum fences is the lifespan of these fences without any major maintenance. As long as care is taken not to cause damage to these kind of fences, the actual cost of installation will pay for itself in terms of maintenance cost of compared with a wooden fence of an iron fence. Taking into account all these pros and cons, it is up yo the individual to decide if they need a normal iron fence or a aluminum fence.
